A client bought a spacious apartment sight unseen in one of Surfers Paradise’s original high-rise complexes. While it had big rooms, much of the space was outdated with heavy wooden furniture and cabinetry, and a colour scheme that felt stagnant. Hired to redesign and project manage the complete rebuild, I stripped out walls and all outdated fixtures. As with many older buildings, surprises awaited us around every corner and this one was no exception! The original layout featured a tiny main bathroom and ensuite, awkwardly separated by an oversized laundry. I gutted all three spaces, creating a generous ensuite and main bathroom which incorporated the laundry. This ambitious move unearthed plumbing issues, but thanks to creative problem-solving and great support from the body corporate manager, we managed our way through. The new living area now flows seamlessly with the kitchen, utilising open shelving for wine storage that adds a modern touch. The bathroom has been elegantly updated with large-format tiles and a sleek vanity, creating luxurious atmosphere that maximises both space and light. The client moved up from Sydney and we had great time selecting fixtures and fittings together. The end result? A stunning transformation that truly maximises space and views.
